The RejuvinAge Hormone Replacement Process

STEP 1: Contact Us

Please contact our office at 757-306-4300 to schedule your appointment.  This appointment is one on one with Dr. Krup. You may request an information packet by email at  info@rejuvinage.com.  Please plan your appointment in advance as appointments are very prompt.

STEP 2: Consultation Appointment

Our program begins with a 1/2 hour consultation appointment.  This appointment is a half hour to hour and a half appointment with Dr. Jennifer Krup. You may download our Female or Male Packet or we will forward an information packet to you by mail. We also ask our patients to complete a Health & Lifestyle questionnaire prior to their consultation appointment.

STEP 3: Labwork

After your initial consultation, our staff will direct you to Lab Corp, our laboratory partner. Lab Corp is conveniently located throughout Hampton Roads and most of the 50 states. Locations may be found by  clicking here.  Most locations open at 8a.m. and appointments are not necessary. Blood draws are done on a walk in basis. Our Premier Lab panel requires you to fast for 12 hours before your testing is preformed. The results are received in our office in approximately 7 days.  Final lab results are an integral part of the RejuvinAge Program Appointment.  Lab work must be completed seven days prior to a scheduled appointment .

STEP 4: Program Appointment

On the day of your program appointment, Dr. Krup will spend 1/2 hour-1 1/2 hours with you in a one on one appointment.  This time is best spent without interruptions, therefore we request cell phone not be used in our center. This appointment begins with a review of individual lab results, an assessment of symptoms and a discussion of medical history as listed on your health and lifestyle questionnaire. Dr. Krup will then discuss the principles of bio identical hormone replacement, your personal treatment plan and will complete your appointment with answers to your questions and a physical examination.

STEP 5: Treatment Program

By combining lab results and  medical history, Dr. Krup will determine the best bio identical hormone replacement program for you. She will prescribe a prescription program compounded  to exact dosages. Each RejuvinAge hormone prescription is compounded by Med Quest Pharmacy, our specialty compounding pharmacy partner.  Orders are shipped to your door within  approximately 48 hours.

STEP 6: Follow-Up

After 7-8 weeks of treatment, patients have their first follow-up appointment with Dr. Krup. Seven days prior to this appointment follow-up lab work must be complete. Dr. Krup will review your new lab results, discuss the effects of your program and adjust  dosages accordingly. Patients repeat this process again in 90 days and then again in six months. Once hormones levels are optimized, it is only necessary to have lab work and an office visit once a year.

What is a Compounding Pharmacy?

What is a Compounding Pharmacy?

Compounding (also pharmaceutical compounding and compounding pharmacy) is the mixing of drugs by a compounding pharmacist to develop medication or supplements for the unique needs of an individual  patient. Compounding Pharmacies provide unique solutions for medically necessary reasons, such as to change the form of the medication from a solid pill to a liquid, to avoid non-essential ingredients that the patient may be allergic to, or to obtain the exact dose needed.

RejuvinAge in partnership with MedQuest provides every client with the finest quality Bio Identical Hormones available.

Does Your Office Accept Health Insurance for Hormone Replacement?

Does Your Office Accept Health insurance?

The focus of our program is restoring hormones to optimal levels. Therefore our practice does not accept or participate in insurance programs. We consider RejuvinAge Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy an elective medical practice. We optimize hormone levels based on exact lab results and do not treat actual illness or disease. We do not accept assignments or participate in insurance plans.  In keeping with a free enterprise philosophy, our policy regarding insurance has always been that we choose to work directly with our patients rather than through an insurance company.  We have opted out of the Medicare Program and are only able to see Medicare eligible patients who first elect to pay in full for all services rendered and subsequently sign a Medicare Waiver, an agreement not to seek reimbursement from Medicare for medical care received at our office.

We are not able to furnish information or answer questions for insurance companies. In keeping with our philosophy of optimal health and wellness, we have afforded our patients the luxury of optimizing their health and well-being, without the interference of insurance companies. Our focus is the premier care we provide our patients without the regulation or interference of these companies.  RejuvinAge does not provide documentation for filing of insurance for office visits, lab services or natural hormone prescriptions, as these are considered elective treatments.   RejuvinAge patients are provided with a copy of their medical records on each visit. It is the responsibility of each patient to maintain their records.

RejuvinAge offers customized lab panels which have been negotiated through LabCorp, our lab partner.  These lab panels offer discounted pricing and are not covered by insurance.  Because we do not treat illness or disease, we cannot provide diagnosis codes for lab testing.

Will My FSA Cover RejuvinAge's Hormone Replacement Treatment?

Will My FSA Cover RejuvinAge's  Treatment?

Many employers offer a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to their employees. These arrangements permit the employee to stow a portion of their pre-tax earnings in a special account for use on health-related expenses NOT covered by primary health insurance. Depending on the type of FSA, these arrangements may cover the portion of your treatment. Ask your employer or visit the  IRS FSA site.

Can I Use My Own Pharmacy?

Can I Use My Own Pharmacy?

We are better able to manage your hormone levels with precise accuracy if all medications come from the same pharmacy. Hormone modulation is very different from prescribing "one-size-fits-all" drugs. Every treatment regimen is custom-tailored to the individual based on the results of blood tests, symptoms, medical history and a physical exam. By standardizing with one compounding pharmacy (as with one diagnostic lab), we are better able to predict a patient's response to a certain dosage and properly adjust the dosage in response to symptoms. If a patient obtains their hormones or supplements elsewhere, we can never be sure exactly what they are taking.

How are Bio Idential Hormones Administered? How Often?

How Are Bioidentical Hormones Administered? How Often?

Rejuvinage Bioidentical Hormones are self-administered daily using transdermal creams, oral capsules and sublingual triturates.

What Are Bio Identical Hormones Made From?

What Are Bioidentical Hormones Made From?

Dr. Krup insists her patients understand the definition of bio identical hormones. They are compounds that have exactly the same chemical and molecular structure as hormones that are produced in the human body. Each formulation may be uniquely tailored by a compounding pharmacy for the individual patient. Most bio identical hormones are made from soy or wild yams which contain compounds that are chemically processed and made into identical replicas of hormones produced by the body. Bio identical hormones are prescription medicines and should not be confused with over the counter formulations of creams and supplements.

What Are Hormone Replacement Side Effects?

What Are Hormone Replacement Side-Effects?

Side-effects are often minimal and manageable when restoring hormones. Some patients report breast tenderness or swollen joints when first starting hormone replacement therapy; these and other adverse reactions can be remedied by reducing the dosage.  Patients have not reported long-term side effects.

Do You do Saliva Testing or Implant Pellets?

Do You do Saliva Testing or Implant Pellets?

Saliva testing may be accurate for hormones that circulate in high concentrations, such as progesterone but not all hormones can be accurately assessed using saliva. Since we require extensive blood testing for each consultation, there is no need to collect saliva samples as well. All of the bio identical hormones we assess are accurately measured using the blood samples. We do not implant Pellets. Often times pellets are not sterile products and must be implanted through an incision. It is somewhat impossible to regulate consistent hormone levels with pellets. Pellets may not be removed so if for any reason a patient with pellets has a problem with hormones, there is no immediate fix.

What if I Had a Hysterectomy?

What if I Had a Hysterectomy?

Hormone replacement is perfectly safe after a hysterectomy. In fact, since the ovaries produce much of the testosterone in the female body, replacing this hormone is even more important.

How Long Do I Need to Stay on the Hormone Replacement Program?

How Long do I Need to Stay on the Hormone Replacement Program?

You should continue hormone replacement treatment as long as you wish to see results or resolution of symptoms. Patients sometimes request to stop the program. If they consider restarting, they must begin from the initial consultation to determine if they would benefit from continued treatment.  The majority of our patients remain on the program.

What Happens if I Stop the Program?

What Happens if I Stop the Hormone Replacement Program?

In general, supplementation by exogenous (external) hormones will result in decreased endogenous (internal) production. However, the body tends to restore hormones to pre-treatment levels after cessation of treatment. If your own hormone production was low before treatment, it will most likely return to the same levels after treatment. As a result, most of the physical changes enabled by the program will gradually revert back to "normal".

Will I Continue to Get My Period?

Will I Continue to Get My Period?

The answer to the question of whether to cycle or not to cycle when undergoing Hormone Replacement Therapy  is complex and is specific to each woman. It also entails a long discussion of the evidence for and against this treatment modality. Briefly, our current interpretation of available data is that while cycling may turn out to have benefits there is not enough clinical trial data to mandate it for all patients.

When Should I Start Thinking About Hormone Replacement?

When Should I Start Thinking About Hormone Replacement?

My Doctor Wants Me to Wait Until I Reach Menopause.

Menopause is defined as a single day--12 months after your last period. Your physician's suggestion that you wait until you have passed this milestone reflects an antiquated view of a woman's transition from the pre-menopause to menopause. The majority of women experience their most severe symptoms in the months to years leading up to this milestone. To wait for this single day would be to subject women to a year or more of unnecessary hot flushes, night sweats, mental fogginess, and bone loss. Our approach is to start addressing these symptoms as soon as they appear. They often begin a year or two before the final menstrual period, a time called the peri-menopause. By so doing, we can avoid fluctuating hormone levels that can wreak havoc on a woman. Our approach is to keep the transition smooth from normal cycling through menopause.
